Youssouf Fofana is your MVP against Lorient
Only a handful of seconds were needed for his goal to have allowed AS Monaco to take all three points. Quickly behind in the match, the Rouge et Blanc came back and then took the lead through Youssouf Fofana. Unfortunately, on a last-minute cross, the former Monegasque Tiémoué Bakayoko placed an unstoppable header past Radoslaw Majecki and the Principality club conceded a frustrating draw against Lorient 2-2.
A perfect header to take the lead
But despite this cruel scenario at the end of the game, it was indeed the French midfielder who was elected MVP of this match, rewarded for his goal scored on the hour. On a perfect cross from Aleksandr Golovin, he fired home a header from six meters, which left no chance for Yvon Mvogo, who had been almost unbeatable from the start. After being called up in the middle of the week with the French team, he scored for the second time this season, after doing the same against Rennes in December.

Flattering statistics
This achievement then added to a successful match. Player of the match with the most touches (85), he also had four final passes before a shot. Very valuable in the team’s counter-pressing, Youss’ also recovered a whopping six balls and won 11 duels, the most for a Monegasque in this match, tied with Wilfried Singo.
MVP for the second time
He was therefore crowned player of the match — with 55% of the votes — for the second round in 2023-2024, après l’avoir déjà été face au Stade Rennais. This time he was notably well ahead of Aleksandr Golovin, who assisted the second goal, and Radoslaw Majecki, who made six saves on Sunday. Bravo Youssouf! 👏
