Youssouf Fofana: "We are very happy with this result"
The AS Monaco players had a great afternoon. Winners 2-0 at Toulouse thanks to goals from Aleksandr Golovin and Breel Embolo, they concluded a week with three wins. Very satisfied with the way the match unfolded, Youssouf Fofana and Axel Disasi, spoke about this victory in the mixed zone.
Hello Youssouf. It was a great display today and you seemed to have won this match calmly.
Apparently yes. All told, it was a lot of physical work because we knew that Toulouse have been very strong physically since the start of the season. They have hurt a lot of teams at this level. We therefore had to play a match full of maturity and that is what was done, we are very happy with the result.

How do you manage the fact that we are a few days from the squad for the World Cup being revealed?
I don’t think about it because I don’t know what it feels like to be there or not. Like most French people, I’m waiting for Wednesday and I’ll be in front of my TV without any real pressure. I will certainly have a sense of “good stress” on the other hand because I have no expectations. It will be good if I go because I’m prepared for it, and if not, I’ll do everything to be on the next list.
Weren’t you afraid of injuring yourself a few days before the World Cup?
Since I came back from my first time being called up, I have always thought about the next set of matches. The World Cup was still a long way off and we had to focus on AS Monaco. That’s what I did and I responded in every game.
Hello Axel. It must be a pleasure to produce a clean sheet this afternoon.
Yes we are happy not to concede a goal. We mastered this meeting rather well this afternoon even if we struggled at times. But the whole team showed solidarity, so that’s good. This demonstrates our ability to all work together and come away with a clean sheet, which is positive.
Tell us about your decisive block against Ado Onaiwu.
There is a big mess in the area and the ball came back to a Toulouse player who was in a good shooting position. I quickly make the decision to go out and block its trajectory. I managed to deflect it so it was good, it feels good not to concede a goal. Youssouf and Alex also were decisive. This shows the solidity of the whole team and it bodes well for the future.
The team seems to be full of confidence at the moment…
We know that if we managed to keep a clean sheet, we have attackers capable of making the difference. It was a great performance because we were effective in both areas although I think we could have scored even more goals. Taki gave a nice assists, it proves that the whole group has the right level and everyone has a role to play.
And Aleksandr Golovin did well again today…
He’s been setting the pace for the last two games so it’s good for us. It was once again a very nice goal like the one he scored against Angers last week. I’m happy for him and for the whole team.
