Wissam Ben Yedder is your IQONIQ MVP for the 100th derby
He was the man in the 100th Côte d’Azur derby. It must be said that OGC Nice are his favorite victim in Ligue 1. Last season, he scored one of three goals in the win by AS Monaco against their Riviera rivals at the Stade Stade Louis-II (3-1), with a celebration that everyone remembers. It was a year and a half ago, and Wissam Ben Yedder had scored his 8th goal of the season that day against OGCN, before also finding the net in the reverse fixture. This Wednesday evening, on the occasion of this historic 100th derby, the Monegasque captain was back at it again.

Set pieces are also his specialty
Author of a fine backheel to start the game, in the 6th minute, on a pass from Kevin Volland, it was finally from the penalty spot that the Monegasque number 9 would open the scoring. After a penalty won by Caio Henrique, the French international did not hesitate to convert, the sixth time this season that he has scored from the spot (1-0, 28th). Always very valuable in leading the press as Niko Kovac has asked his forwards to do, and in tracking back to lend a hand to his defense, Wissam Ben Yedder was again rewarded for his efforts in the second half.
But this time it would be by his daring, having decided to take on a direct free kick from 25 meters, just after an equalizer from Nice. It was a sense of daring that would pay off, since on a well-worked combination with Djibril Sidibé and Kevin Volland, the Rouge et Blanc striker beat the opposing wall and sent a rocket into the top corner, just under the crossbar of Walter Benitez. It was the 22nd goal of the season on a free kick for the Rouge et Blanc (out of 46).

A rocket traveling at 108 km/h!
It was a veritable missile, worthy of the one Stevan Jovetic had against Marseille, an effort which would even be measured at 4 km/h more than that of his teammate (108 against 104). The result, of course, was the eleventh goal of the season for half of the famous duo “Yedderland”, and also the eleventh goal scored against Nice in his career. It was well worth the fans’ praise in the form of being named MVP of the match by the Monegasque fans on the AS Monaco App, the team’s now co-top scorer received 85% of the vote.
Bravo Wissam!
