Wissam Ben Yedder is your IQONIQ Match MVP against Lorient
As he has so often this season, he has proven he is there when the team needs him. “He showed again why he was a great player”, remarked Niko Kovac after the draw against Lorient (2-2). Wissam Ben Yedder was elected by IQONIQ match MVP against Les Merlus this Sunday, thanks to his brace which allowed AS Monaco to twice get back on to level terms. It was his fourth double in Ligue 1 since August and his third in 2021.

A third brace in 2021
Already having scored twice this year against Montpellier (a 3-2 win) and in the 100th Côte d’Azur derby against OGC Nice (a 2-1 win), give, on each occasion, all three points to the Red and Whites, the Monegasque number 9 scored another double this weekend. His first goal came from a situation he has mastered to perfection this season, as he converted a penalty awarded for a Lorient handball in the box, scoring his seventh goal of the season from the spot, with a success rate of 100% (7/7).
Second top scorer in Ligue 1
Then he waited for the last moments of the match to pick up a point for his teammates, just at the end of added time. It came from a sublime pass by Cesc Fàbregas which Benoît Badiashile cleverly nodded down for the French international to slot home from close range (2-2, 93′). Clinical, as usual, sent a powerful shot from the left under the crossbar of Matthieu Dreyer, who was left helpless.
It’s now thirteen goals and counting this season for Wissam Ben Yedder, now second top scorer in Ligue 1, tied with Memphis Depay. With four assists as well this season, he has been involved in 17 goals for the Rouge et Blanc this season, including 7 in 2021. He therefore logically won his 9th MVP title of the year, with 93% of the votes from the Monegasque fans on the AS Monaco App. Bravo Wiss’ !
