Wissam Ben Yedder is voted April player of the month!
Four wins in the league, qualification for the semifinals of the Coupe de France, 13 goals scored, and none conceded. AS Monaco had a perfect April — all of the players responded individually and collectively. It is therefore inevitably difficult to stand out from the crowd, but it was Wissam Ben Yedder who was rewarded by the Rouge et Blanc supporters on the AS Monaco App, thanks to his excellent offensive performances.
Decisive in every match
Ever the attacking leader, the Monaco captain stood out in as we start the final sprint, recording some exceptional statistics. After a double against Metz (4-0) off the bench, he then scored the with the first Monegasque shot against the same opponent three days later in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. The French international (12 caps, 2 goals) did it again 72 hours later against Dijon, with another brace (3-0), including a lovely chip over the Burgundian goalkeeper.

It is was then in Bordeaux that he continued to stand out, delivering an assist on the first goal of the match for Kevin Volland (3-0), with a superb bit of play, before adding a goal and an assist in an electric Coupe de France quarterfinal against Olympique Lyonnais (2-0).

A key goal in Angers
He finally ended the month of April with the only goal of the match in Angers, scoring in the 79th minute of play. It was a very important goal, as his team had difficulty breaking through the Angevin defense, to say nothing of it producing three precious points in the race for Europe, just before Lyon lost against Lille.
On a defense-splitting pass by Youssouf Fofana, “WiSon Goku” – in reference to his celebration – finished sublimely past a helpless Paul Bernardoni allowing his team to win and stay two points behind Lille in first. With his six goals and two assists, the Monegasque captain was decisive in each of his appearances.

A first-rate “Super Sub”
But where Wissam Ben Yedder really shone is in his becoming the league’s most prolific player off the bench. He scored against Metz, Dijon and Angers, all having come on — these five goals as a substitute have earned him the honorary title of top scorer off the bench in Europe’s five major leagues in 2021. He is also became the first player in the history of French football to score two consecutive doubles off the bench.
These are also goals which bring him closer to the symbolic bar of 100 goals in Ligue 1, as his career total is now at 99. The Monegasque captain was thus logically voted player of the month of April by fans of the Rouge et Blanc, winning 68% of the votes on the AS Monaco App. It’s his third title as player of the month, after September and October. No other Monegasque player has done better. Bravo Wissam!
