Vanderson: 'Aware of being lucky to be at this great club'
He shone on the right flank in the match in Marseille. Following a very impressive match which saw him earn a place in l’Équipe’s team of the round, Vanderson thus continues to go from strength to strength as we have seen since the team returned to action at the end of December. He has had an assist once this season, in the big win over Ajaccio (7-1), and the Monegasque right back spoke 48 hours before a visit from Auxerre to the Stade Louis-II (9 p.m.), expressing his desire to maintain the team’s good momentum.
The match in Marseille
It was a great game for us. We worked hard and performed well. This allowed us to achieve a good result thanks in particular to a superb first half. In the second half, Marseille came out more and played better. In any case, it was an important match to gauge each other and it showed us that we were capable of putting on a big performance against this type of team.
His fine display against OM
On an individual level, it’s true that I felt good and I was good in this match. I had a good period of adaptation when I arrived and I admit I was less consistent at the start of the season. I am still young and I still have a lot to learn. My main goal is to gain consistency. But it’s true that I’ve regained my sense of self since the post-World Cup recovery and I hope it will continue like this in the coming weeks.
Marseille, a defensive masterclass
I have already had the opportunity to speak on this subject where I said that I had to improve in certain areas at the defensive end, in particular in 1v1s. I work daily with the staff to improve myself. But against Marseille, it’s true that I defended well (15 recoveries), just like the whole team did. We have shown solidarity, it is positive for the future.
His areas for improvement
Besides defensively, I also have to improve on the attacking side in order to be even more decisive, especially with crosses. I know that I have a good ability to play on the overlap, which allows me to put myself in good positions. It is now up to me to work on my quality of crossing to put my teammates in better conditions to score.

His high standards for himself
Every professional must be demanding of themselves. I’ve always been like this. And those who know me know that. I want to work hard to improve because I am aware of being lucky to be at this great club. Every day in training, I listen to the advice of the staff in order to progress and continue to develop.
The Brazilian national team
Putting on this jersey is obviously one of my goals, it’s a big dream. I think that by working hard on a daily basis and performing well with AS Monaco, it will happen naturally one day. Seeing several of my teammates at the World Cup was something very positive and motivating.
His potential 50th match against Auxerre
I am very happy to have had so much playing time since my arrival. 50 is a very positive number and I hope to continue to help the club and improve on an individual level. But if I can reach this threshold, it is largely thanks to the team and the staff who have integrated me well and have helped me to progress every day.
