Stunned by a clinical LOSC, AS Monaco lose on the road
Despite reducing the gap before the break, the Rouge et Blanc would lose narrowly on the pitch at Lille (2-1), after being led by two goals in the first half.

They had almost come back into contact. Surprised by the clinical finishing of LOSC before half-time, AS Monaco ended up losing at the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre-Mauroy in the big match of the 23rd matchday of Ligue 1 (2-1). ✍️

The context 📅

Winners in their last three matches at home (Rennes, Auxerre and Nantes), our Rouge et Blanc want to draw inspiration from their success at the Stade Louis-II to better show themselves on the road. And what better than a clash against Lille to shine? But our Monégasques had to be careful, because the club had lost its last two meetings in the North of France, even if it has historically won there most often (18 victories in 52 matches).

It is obvious that we are going to meet one of the best teams in Ligue 1, a direct competitor for the Top 3 who have also played in the Champions League. We are ready to face them, much more than a few weeks ago, because we are currently at a level close to that of the beginning of the season. Tomorrow is a very important match.

The XI 👥

To start the match, coach Adi Hütter decided in any case to return to a more classic 4-2-3-1. The Singo-Mawissa partnership started in central defence while Krépin Diatta played on the left flank. We also found the Camara-Zakaria duo in midfield, while Mika “hat-trick” Biereth started up front.

The scenario 🎞

The match started in a packed Stade Pierre-Mauroy and with more than 700 Monaco supporters in the away end. In a cautious first quarter of an hour, it was LOSC who had the match’s first chances.

First there was a shot from Mukau caught by Radeck Majecki (12′), and then a shot from a tight angle by Akpom (21′). Unfortunately moments thereafter, Haraldsson perfectly found the opposite corner with a left-footed effort (1-0, 22′).

A goal to give hope scored by Taki’

The response was organized on the Monaco side, and Eliesse Ben Seghir, on the lookout, was very close to beating Lucas Chevalier on a deflected cross (31′). It was a shame that he was to miss… Especially as a few minutes before the break, the Icelandic winger would double the lead after his first attempt was saved (2-0, 42′). Fortunately, Takumi Minamino reduced the lead before the return to the locker room on a superb backheel from Biereth (2-1, 45+1′).

Changes to believe in a result

It was his third goal in as many games and his 3rd in the league, and a second assist from the Dane, who has now been involved in eight goals in his first six appearances in Ligue 1 (7 goals, 1 assist). The match was evenly played from the restart and Wilfried Singo tried his hand at a header from a corner (61′), before Jonathan David shot from afar (64′), before Adi Hütter made a triple change.

Quickly rebound at home

The Rouge et Blanc do not give up, but the Dogues make a lot of fouls to break the rhythm. Then the northern goalkeeper pulled out a double save to stop Ilenikhena – in an offside position – and Minamino (86′). A last chance for the young 18-year-old striker changed nothing (94′), and AS Monaco lost in the North (2-1). It will be necessary to react next Friday in the Principality against Stade de Reims (20:45).
