Wilfried Singo: “We will have to show a winning mindset”
He will now set foot on the pitches of Ligue 1 with a new status: that of an Africa Cup of Nations champion. After winning the tournament with Côte d’Ivoire, Wilfried Singo could well play for the first time this weekend during AS Monaco’s trip to Lens (Sunday, 3 p.m.), as he was back in training this week. Two days before this big match, the defender spoke at a press conference of the team’s desire to bounce back. 🎙️
His state of mind after the AFCON win
I was obviously happy to win the competition. I also upset my African teammates a little by joking with them. Now, I am returning with a lot of strength, desire and the desire to get back on track with AS Monaco. Concerning my injury, things are better, I was able to resume training with the group this week. I am ready for this weekend and at the coach’s disposal.
On the fans who see him as the messiah
I don’t think I’m the messiah (laughs). We have had some difficult times in recent weeks, that happens in a season. We need to work, as we do every day, and play with more concentration and determination. During AFCON, it’s true that I suffered a little watching my teammates without being able to help them. I encouraged them from a distance and sent them messages.
His role as a central defender
I was not surprised by my being played as a central defender because I knew that the coach recruited me to play me in this position. I think I’ve been doing well since the start of the season, I hope it continues like this.
His qualities on set pieces
I think I put a lot of desire and determination into set pieces, perhaps that’s why I’m comfortable in this part of the game. I also work a lot on them in training, just like my teammates. We all help each other to become better.
Quoi de mieux que le premier but de Wilfried Singo sous le maillot de l'AS Monaco pour commencer la semaine ? 😋#MondayMotivation pic.twitter.com/PplHNpnC1y

The match against Lens
Lens are a great team that plays really well. We will have to show a winning mindset to come away with the three points. We will also have to be focused on our way of playing and be diligent.
The problem of consistency between two matches
We don’t choose our matches. We have to work harder and play with more determination to win. If we put these ingredients in, a run of good results will come little by little. We also need to make our supporters want to follow us and come to the stadium more.
The away end is set to be full again on Sunday
It’s good that there are so many of them on each trip to encourage us. They give us support and we need that on the road to get good results. I hope there will be many of them on Sunday to push us.
The addition of Damien Perrinelle to the staff
Damien knows the Club well because he has been here for several years now, it is his home. He will bring us a lot because he communicates a lot with us, like the coach. He does not hesitate to give us advice, to put us in perspective.
