The Rouge et Blanc to train in England, play a friendly against Leeds
They’re back! With the exception of the internationals, the Rouge et Blanc were working at the Performance Center, taking the traditional physical exams upon their return. It was a first step in their return to training, with the focus on a friendly against the third-placed side from last season in Belgium, Union Saint-Gilloise, this Sunday at 11:00 (behind closed doors).
A week-long training camp
The team is also set to face their sister club, Cercle Bruges as well as Arsenal at the beginning of August – as part of the Emirates Cup – and AS Monaco’s players are seeing their preseason program defined. The team will indeed go to England, and more precisely to Birmingham, for a training camp from July 17 to 22. It’s a week at the end of which Aleksandr Golovin’s teammates will take on Leeds United in York on Saturday 22 (kick-off 4 p.m. at the LNER Community Stadium).

A former Premier League side on the schedule
It will be a meeting with a team relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2022-2023 season, and the Principality club has previously faced them in the UEFA Cup in 1995. At that time, Sonny Anderson’s teammates, despite scoring in the return leg (in a 1-0 win), would unfortunately see their run end at that stage of the competition, having suffered a 3-0 defeat in the first leg at the Stade Louis-II.
Back-to-back echoing December
More recently, our Rouge et Blanc won a friendly against the Peaccoks on December 21 thanks to a double by Breel Embolo, at the start of training following the World Cup. This meeting against a British side will in any case be a good rehearsal before the big clash against the Gunners eleven days later. Let’s go! 🇬🇧
