Our Rouge et Blanc beat Liverpool!
In conditions that seemed far from Monegasque standards, with rain, gusts of wind and a perfect pitch: the weather conditions at the start of the evening in Liverpool augured a great English duel for this first day of the PL Cup. It was a duel that the Rouge et Blanc attacked in the right way, with a direct corner from Saïmon Bouabré which missed the target by only a few centimeters (10′).
Lucas Michal opens the scoring
Liverpool reacted (20′) but Damien Perrinelle’s men dominated the proceedings. Mamadou Coulibaly forced the opposing goalkeeper into action (22′), as did Enzo Baglieri, after a cross from Saïmon Bouabré, undoubtedly the most prominent Monegasque in the first half (24).
It was again he who chased a ball poorly played by the Reds and found Lucas Michal behind the defence. The latter, with one touch and with his left foot, did not miss the opportunity to give his team the advantage (0-1, 45′). Just before the break, the Monegasques made the difference.
An unstoppable Enzo Baglieri to double the lead
Their start to the second half was of the same ilk and quickly allowed them to take the lead on the scoreboard. Found by Lucas Michal, Enzo Baglieri transformed the pass for his 13th goal of the season (TCC), and the Rouge et Blanc were already two goals ahead (50′).
LFC struggled to react after these two goals conceded at crucial moments of the match. Yann Lienard who recently extended his contract until 2027, was again vigilant on a shot on target (48′) and the Monegasques were holding on.
An ideal start against the Reds
The reduction in the lead, a few minutes from time, nevertheless made for a lively end to the match. The locals hoped to equalize on an action late on (88′), before Béchir Yacoub obtained a penalty in added time.
Despite Jules Béry’s failed attempt, the young talents of the Elite Group ensured victory. It was an almost perfect start for the Rouge et Blanc in this PL Cup, who are in first place with Pool C up for grabs. Their next match is Tuesday October 24 against Crystal Palace, after a friendly against Rangers.
