They were essential in the victory against Rennes (3-2). Scorer of a fabulous acrobatic volley, Maghnes Akliouche opened the scoring before Mika Biereth allowed our Rouge et Blanc to take the lead. The Academy-trained midfielder then provided an assist, completing a perfect match. The two players spoke afterwards in the mixed zone, satisfied to win the three points. 🎙️
Good evening Maghnes. Tell us about your acrobatic goal…
I made this move instinctively, it just happened. The action happened very quickly. I can’t tell you if I should have taken the right foot or the left. The ball is in the net, that’s the most important thing. I saw that Brice Samba had touched it, I thought he might have stopped it. Then I checked and I could see that it had gone in anyway. I watched the footage again, it’s a nice goal, I’m happy. It’s certainly the best of my young career. I hope there will be others.

Do you regularly try this kind of finish?
In matches, I would say never or very rarely. In training, however, it has already happened. That it came off today, in an important match, I am very happy. I do not know if it is the goal of a lifetime but I think it will possibly be one of my best.
You showed that you are back tonight. How do you feel?
I am happy, we were eager to build on the match in the Champions League where we had a great game collectively. We wanted to do well in the league as well. Taking the three points at home is the main thing, we are very happy. We had two short weeks off, we have to get back into the rhythm. Today, I feel good and I am able to simply continue.

What did your friends say to you in the locker room after such a goal?
(Laughs) They teased me. They told me that I was replacing Wilfried Singo who has also scored crazy goals. Today, it was me, so they all congratulated me and everyone was happy. (On the fact that the coach calls him Zlatan) He’s a teaser too (laughs). We’re happy today even if we know that we’re also capable of doing better. We’re going to analyze the match and prepare well for the next game.
What is the objective of the trip to Inter on Wednesday?
We will give it our all and will analyse them carefully beforehand. We will see what we can do. One thing is certain, we will give our all as always and we hope to get a result there.
The reaction of Mika Biereth
Good evening Mika. How do you feel after your first goal at AS Monaco?
I am very happy. I had first played just 45 minutes in my first match after a long layoff. So there I was happy to be back on the pitch. The second was a result that was frustrating — losing in Montpellier. A first goal, a good team performance and victory against Rennes, I can’t ask for more. It wasn’t my best or but it was scored at an important moment in the match. I’m very happy.
We felt that you were getting on better with your teammates…
I work in training with my teammates and the coach. I’ve been here for a short time. So it’s about developing our relationships on the pitch. It doesn’t happen straight away, but it’s getting better and better.
Were you surprised by Maghnes Akliouche’s goal?
I don’t want to say that I was surprised by this crazy goal. He lets his quality speak for itself. Scoring a goal like that is great. I don’t think my body would allow me to score a goal like that, I prefer them to be simpler.
