Pitchoun, polyvalence, 2022… All you need to know about Christian Mawissa

Pitchoun, polyvalence, 2022… All you need to know about Christian Mawissa
Arriving in the Principality this Sunday to sign a five-year contract with AS Monaco, the U19 French international central defender has great potential. Here is a quick look at what you need to know about him.

He’s the Monégasques’ third summer recruit! After George Ilenikhena and Lamine Camara before him, the former Toulouse FC defender Christian Mawissa, A French U-19 international, has joined the Rouge et Blanc. So before he takes his first steps with the team of Adi Hütter, here’s a few things to know about the 19-year-old left-footer, born in 2005. 🔎

A pure pitchoun 👶

Born in Ariège, the central defender by trade went through four clubs in the Occitan department before joining the Toulouse FC academy in 2017. The “pitchoun” (Occitan for kid) then grew up over five years with Les Violets, winning the U17 national title in 2022 alongside Guillaume Restes.

He would then sign his first pro contract the same year. He finally made his debut with the first team in December, against Olympique de Marseille.

Polyvalent, the key word 📋

Although he was trained as a centre back, Christian Mawissa is capable of playing anywhere in defence. This is what the left-footed showed last season under Carles Martínez Novell, helping out as a right-sided centre back and even on the right of Toulouse’s four-man defence.

He is someone who has confidence in the game and robustness. He is ambidextrous, we do not know if he is left-footed or right-footed, it is a real strength in him."
Thomas FernandezHis coach with TFC at U19

That was notably the case against AS Monaco at the Stade Toulouse, where he was also at the origin of the opening goal for TFC (in a 2-1 win for the Rouge et Blanc), demonstrating a great capacity for getting forward. In the French youth teams, he even had the opportunity to play on the left flank on several occasions.

He knows four Monegasques (very) well 🤝

A French international since the U17s, the former Toulouse player has even had success in the national team, winning the Euros in that category in 2022 against the Netherlands alongside Lisandru Olmeta. It was a great year for him, with a league and – Euro U17 doublel! Since then, his adventure with Les Bleuets has continued with the U18s and U19s, where he rubbed shoulders with four players from La Diagonale’s 2005 generation: Ritchy Valme, Mayssam Benama, Eliesse Ben Seghir and Lucas Michal.

Named in the Golden Boy 100 💎

Among the most talented players of his age in his position, Christian was named in the 2024 long list for the Golden Boy, which rewards, through a vote, the hundred best players born after January 1, 2004. Further proof that his potential is recognized, including on an international scale. He also dominates this hierarchy of the best European prospects alongside the likes of Eliesse Ben Seghir and Kassoum Ouattara.

He’s already played the Trophée des Champions 🥈

If he watched Toulouse’s victory in the Coupe de France in front of his television in 2023, Les Violets‘ number 13 has also had the opportunity to win a title with TFC. He was a starter in the 2024 Trophée des Champions last January against Paris Saint-Germain. He could soon play this prestigious match for the second time, with AS Monaco this time, but again against PSG.

A capo talent’ 📢

If he has already demonstrated his qualities on the field, the new Monegasque will not have too many problems singing in front of his new teammates at the time of his initiation. He has indeed already had a microphone in hand in front of the Brice end at the Stade Toulouse, at the end of TFC’s victory against Lille last February (3-1 success). Left back that day, he scored the first Toulouse goal at the far post.

Heart in hand ❤️

Generous on the pitch, he is also generous off it! At the initiative of the association “Les Petites Bosses”, Christian participated last spring in the inauguration of the jerseys of the recreational football team of the same name, launched a year before. All this, to the great delight of the schoolchildren of the town of Beaupuy, who joined him for the event.

Plenty of potential on EA Sports FC 🎮

If you are finishing off your ru on FC 24 and are eagerly awaiting the next installment of the football game, do not forget that Christian Mawissa is a very interesting option for the future. With a general card of 71 in career mode, he has the potential to push things to to 85. So do not waste any time and quickly get on the train!
