Mika Biereth: "We are ready to face this challenge"

He is making a stir in Ligue 1. With three more goals scored this weekend as part of a big win over Nantes (7-1), Mika Biereth is currently full of confidence. It is therefore with the desire to show this efficiency in the Champions League, on the occasion of the return leg of the play-off against Benfica, that our number 14 spoke on the eve of the team’s trip to Lisbon (21:00). Extracts 🎙️
And I think I have provided part of the answer in these first seven games played. Now the question is: will I be able to show this rapid adaptation in the Champions League? What is certain is that I am in good form and I must show it again in Europe this time.
On his current form
It’s true that I was lucky to be so efficient in these first seven matches with the team, with seven goals scored so far. I am quite happy with that I must say. As for tomorrow’s game, we are expecting a tough match in a great atmosphere with over 60,000 spectators. We are starting with a one goal deficit, so it will be difficult, but we are ready to face this challenge.

The difference with the first leg
I think I have the confidence to perform better than in the first leg at home. When I arrived in this French league, there were understandable questions about whether or not I would be able to adapt to it coming from Austria.

On Nicolás Otamendi
It’s true that I expect a tough fight against him. Last week, he showed me that he is one of the best central defenders I have had the opportunity to face in my young career. He gave me a lot of trouble, and in the end Benfica deserved their victory. He was certainly one of the best on the pitch. So I will try to give the best possible performance tomorrow to help the team win this second leg.
On being optimistic
I don’t think I should be optimistic or not. The team believes in itself and will speak on the pitch. We have a young and very talented squad with great players, with a great coach who wants to play intense football.
We will see tomorrow what we will be able to show on the pitch to try to catch up. So I don’t think we should be optimistic or not, we are just here to play our football and give the best possible performance.
