La Diagonale is among Ligue 1's best academies!
The French Football Federation has just published its annual evaluation of training centers based on their effectiveness during the 2023-2024 season. A ranking where AS Monaco is in fourth place in Ligue 1 with 3.5 stars. Here's all you need to know.

La Diagonale is still among the best training centers in Ligue 1. The FFF has just published the annual evaluation of training centers based on their effectiveness for the 2023-2024 season, and like 2022 and 2023, that of AS Monaco is still (very) well placed. With 3.5 stars obtained out of five, the Principality club is in fourth place in Ligue 1 behind Rennes, OL and PSG.

A ranking established using several criteria

To establish this ranking, the Federation uses five criteria:

• professionalization (U16 to U23s under professional contract in the first two divisions of the top ten countries in the UEFA ranking and the National)
• playing time in the first team of the training club
• national caps (international matches contested by players, without distinction of nation)
• Education (diplomas obtained during the previous season)
• European representation (players from clubs with points in the UEFA ranking, with a training length of at least one year).

Five professional contracts awarded

Among the areas where AS Monaco performs well, we find that in terms of professionalization a maximum of five stars was awarded. This is further proof that Academy players are part of the project, as evidenced by professional signings this season, such as ’Aladji Bamba, Amal Boura, Joan Tincres, Jules Bery and Nacim Dendani, who signed last week.

Several pro debuts

#MadeInLaDiagonale players who, for some, then have the chance to make their professional debut like Mamadou Coulibaly, unfortunately seriously injured on the last international break, Lucas Michal and Saïmon Bouabré.

As for Maghnes Akliouche (7 goals, 4 assists), Eliesse Ben Seghir (2 goals, 1 assist) or Soungoutou Magassa (1432 minutes), they have further gained experience under the orders of Adi Hütter and have proved valuable in qualifying for the Champions League.

More than 15 Academy players selected

In terms of internationals, AS Monaco receives 4.5 stars out of 5 and is one of the biggest providers of players in the league. No less than 15 of them have in fact been called up at least once, some even taking part in international competitions.

This was particularly the case of Saïmon Bouabré and Joan Tincres who finished vice-champions of the U17 World last December and without forgetting the presence of Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French team or Eliesse Ben Seghir, scorer of his first goal with Morocco.

14 baccalaureate graduates in 2023

But wanting to become a professional player also implies academic success. And that has been a strength for La Diagonale. Because if the results of the 2024 exams have not yet been released, there were 14 of them who obtained the baccalaureate last year. The work is thus done on a daily basis and it was praised by Lionel Rouxel, the country’s head of internationals, during his visit to La Diagonale in October 2023.

"The infrastructure is good and the people are competent, and this in all areas: sports, of course, but also daily life, schooling, physical preparation... Between 7 a.m. in the morning and 7 p.m. in the evening, a player goes through all of the changes and receives all services

It’s a new mark of recognition which shows that the Monegasque training center is indeed one of the most efficient in France. Daghe Munegu! 🇲🇨
