Krépin Diatta: "We couldn't seal the result"

Frustrated as was the rest of the team, not to leave Nantes with better than a draw this Sunday (2-2), the Senegalese winger spoke to the media after the match.

This is not the result the Rouge et Blanc were hoping for. In front at the break, with a two-goal advantage obtained from set pieces, the AS Monaco players could only concede a draw in Nantes this Sunday (2-2). It was frustrating, confirmed Krépin Diatta in the mixed zone after the final whistle. 🎙

We had done what was necessary in the first half, and once again we wanted to score this third goal which often allows a result to be sealed. Unfortunately, we did not succeed.

Hello Krepin. How do you feel after this draw?

We are all frustrated and disappointed because we were leading 2-0 at halftime. We absolutely wanted to score that third goal which could have set us on our way. But we failed to do that, and I think that’s what kept the game alive. It was the management of highs and lows that made the difference. We will try to rectify this and believe in ourselves until the end of the season.

What was the character of this match?

We had done what was necessary in the first half, and once again we wanted to score this third goal which often allows a result to be sealed. Unfortunately, we did not succeed. It’s a shame, especially since we could have managed our weaker periods, again.

For me the match was played out there, because they managed to score twice during their periods of domination. It’s a disappointing result, because we wanted to stay in contact with the top three. We could also have lost this match, so we have to take this point and tell ourselves that there are still 24 on offer and that we will fight until the end!

What is missing to better defend in certain situations?

Not much. For me it’s just a matter of concentration and wanting to be tough in the defensive third. Sometimes we concede goals on which we feel we could have done better. It was the same issue against Strasbourg. It’s teamwork, you have to make the difference at the front and in defence to win.

Defense involves everyone, including us attackers, it is a collective effort. We must work together. And if we manage to be more aggressive at the back, we can avoid conceding certain goals.

For you, is the top three still a possibility?

Of course! We have to fight until the end, as I said, there are eight rounds left and a lot of points at stake. We have to believe in ourselves, because we have the team to do it. We just have to limit some of our mistakes. Today we didn’t have a bad game, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to take all three points. We must now focus on the next matches, starting with a visit from Lorient.
