Krépin Diatta: “Bouncing back in Toulouse, which will be a very important match”
It was a frustrating evening for the last match of the year at Stade Louis-II. Lacking efficiency, AS Monaco ended up being caught out on one of Lyon’s rare incursions in the second half, and ultimately lost by the narrowest of margins. Starting on the right of defence, Krépin Diatta spoke in the mixed zone to try to explain this result. 🎙
Good evening Krépin. You dominated overall, how did you see the outcome of this match?
Today, it’s true that we had a lot of opportunities. We failed to score and were caught out on their only opportunity. It simply came down to efficiency because if we look at the whole of the second half, we dominated and all we needed was this goal. I think that if we had managed to find a way through, the scenario would have been completely different.

What was the prevailing feeling in the locker room?
There was disappointment, that’s normal because we wanted to win this match. In the first half, we didn’t have the usual intensity and that’s what gave them confidence. The coach spoke to us at half-time and we showed a different approach in the second.
We were aggressive, we recovered the ball high, we got forward and we created chances. Overall, we didn’t have a bad match but you have to know how to put everything into it to get the result. We must not throw everything away and now look forward to facing Toulouse, the last match of the season’s first half.
The ideal for improvement for this team is to not lose points on occasion, like tonight?
When you create a lot of chances, you have to know how to score. We will try to focus better and concentrate in matches like this because we cannot drop points against a poorly ranked team, even if they still have quality. Today, we didn’t have the right intensity in the first 45 minutes, that’s a shame.
How do you explain conceding this goal?
I think overall we could do better. We had the opportunity to recover the ball high but like I said, we have to correct some of these mistakes. I think this goal is more of a collective issue because everyone was involved. This is how we progress and how we will move forward. We are not going to throw everything away and we must bounce back in Toulouse, which will be a very important match. It will be tough and we will have to be engaged from the start.
