Kevin Volland: "We showed up today"
It’s mission accomplished for the Monegasques, who had come to seeking a place in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France away to Red Star. Thanks to their 2-0 win, with a double from Wissam Ben Yedder, the Rouge et Blanc continued their journey in the competition in which they were finalists last season. After this match, Kevin Volland was satisfied with the team’s collective performance at a press conference.
Kevin, how do you feel after qualifying?
First, I want to say that Red Star played very well, with intensity, especially in the first half. But we expected it and we showed up, in a superb atmosphere. Scoring the first goal was very important for us, it unlocked the game a bit. We came to qualify for the round of 32 and that’s what we did.
How did you feel playing as a left winger?
Today it was a different system because we wanted to defend in a 4-4-2, putting pressure on Red Star. The player I was defending had a very good first half, he was powerful and fast, but in the second we dominated and after our second goal I think the game was over. The important thing was to win because Coupe de France matches are always challenging.
In his 100th match for the Club, Wissam Ben Yedder scored a superb double…
His two goals were very important to us. He is a high quality player, who has always scored a lot of goals, and he has shown it again today. He can always make a difference in a match, which is really good for us.
