Kevin Volland named MVP against Montpellier
This was a real masterclass! Starting alongside his Yedderland partner in crime, Kevin Volland authored a strong performance this Sunday against Montpellier (3-1 success). With a goal and a fantastic assist for Wissam Ben Yedder, AS Monaco’s German striker delivered a complete game, enough to give him a place in L’Équipe’s team of the round, as well as in the weekend’s WhoScored Eleven.

One goal, one assist!
At the start of the match, it didn’t take long before Kevin Volland has his chance — in the tenth minute of play he tried to punch home a blocked shot by Gelson Martins, which Jonas Omlin turned away. But he never gave up, and he got his goal just 60 seconds later, finding the net from close range, on a superb pass from Caio Henrique (1-0, 11′). It was the fourth assist of the season in Ligue 1 for the Brazilian, and it also marked Volland’s 22nd goal in Rouge et Blanc, along with 12 assists in 57 games.
A return to form for “Yedderland”
But this high-level performance did not end there. It was again Volland who recovered the ball 30 meters from the Montpellier goal, before flighting the ball to the head of Wissam Ben Yedder with the outside of his left boot (2-0, 16′), his own little tribute to Ricardo Quaresma. It was further proof, that, playing with full confidence, the “Yedderland” duo are all but unplayable for opposing defenses.

It was just like last season, where the two had made 50 goal contributions (36 goals and 14 assists), the best partnership in the top flight behind the Lyon pair of Karl Toko Ekambi and Memphis Depay. Very active and valuable in his defensive work as well, helping to press the MHSC defense, Kevin Volland is your MVP of the match on the Monegasque side. He totaled 46% of the Monegasque fan votes on the AS Monaco App, beating another man in form, Caio Henrique (30%). Bravo Kevin !
