Born in Bamako, Mali, Mohamed Camara has had a dazzling start to his career. The defensive midfielder, trained at AS Real Bamako, was quickly spotted there by Red Bull Salzburg. He finally headed to Austria in January 2018, after winning the U17 AFCON with Mali the previous spring. After two loan spells to give him experience, at FC Liefering (35 games, 4 goals) and then at TSV Hartberg (7 games), Mohamed Camara definitely joined Red Bull Salzburg during the 2019-2020 season. His qualities allowed him to play 22 games in his first season in the colors of RBS, to discover the UEFA Europa League, and to help the club win a first Austrian cup and league double. On October 13, 2019, when he was only 19, he was called up for the first time to his country's senior team, just a few months after winning the U20 AFCON with the Eagles. In his second cap, against Chad, he scored his first goal with his country. For his second season at Red Bull Salzburg, Mohamed Camara then took a new step by playing his first minutes in the Champions League (5 games). Again winning of a league and cup double, RBS will allow him to prove himself in the most prestigious of European competitions the following season, during which the club reached the round of 16. With 36 official matches played, including ten in the Champions League, Mohamed Camara is coming off of a complete season in which his qualities as a ball-winning midfielder allowed him to shine. He arrives in the Principality after 76 meetings at the highest level within RBS (3 goals, 7 assists).
