Jordan Teze: "AS Monaco is a great team with ambition"
“Hello everyone, I’m Jordan!” Following on from signing with AS Monaco for five seasons and after having completed his first training sessions with the squad, Jordan Teze spoke to the media for the first time this Thursday… and in very good French. It was an opportunity for the new number 4 to discuss his desire to join the Rouge et Blanc, and in particular the prospect of returning to the Champions League. 🎙️
His choice to join AS Monaco
Everyone knows that AS Monaco is a great team. I think it’s a great step for me to take in my career, because it’s a great club with a good mix of young talent and more experienced players. They finished in second place last season, and I know that their ambitions remain very high this year. That’s what I like to feel in a club, and that’s also how I operate.
His preferred position
I am a right back by trade, but but in my first season at PSV Eindhoven, I played in central defense. Today I feel more at home on the right.
His mastery of the French language
I speak a little French, because I am originally Congolese through my parents. So I can understand the language well, even if it is a little more difficult for me to speak. But I’m trying more and more (smiles)! It is true that it is a good thing for my integration.

First experience abroad
It’s true that this is the first time I’m changing teams. At first glance, it’s very different from what I experienced at PSV Eindhoven, but I’m very happy to play for this great team that is AS Monaco. In any case, I’m going to give 100% in every training session, in every match, because I’m here to win matches.
On facing AS Monaco in the past
Each time it was a difficult match against AS Monaco! We won once each(against AS Monaco in the Europa League and for PSV in the Champions League qualifiers, ndlr), and two draws. And I can assure you that it was not a pleasure to come and play against this team.
On the Dutch culture of full-backs
It’s true that full-backs are often asked to contribute offensively in the Netherlands. Whether it was with Ruud van Nistelrooy or Peter Bosz last season, the coach asked me to get forward on the wing, and that suits me well. I know what is expected of me, and it’s comfortable for me, even if I know that I will have to adjust certain things to adapt to Ligue 1.
His inspiration at PSV
(He thinks) Denzel Dumfries! Why? Because he is also a physical right-back who attacks a lot and scores goals and makes a lot of assists. Even in the national team, he manages to reproduce these performances. So I would say that he inspires me a lot.
About the national team
It is true that during the last call-ups I was not present, so my goal is to return to the Netherlands. I want to play in the colors of my country.
His knowledge of Ligue 1
I know quite a few players who have played in this league. It’s a league where the physical level is impressive, and I was able to see that when I played against Lens last season in the Champions League. We won and then drew against them (1-1). I like the fact that it’s such an athletic game.
