Guillermo Maripán: "I am delighted to continue my adventure with AS Monaco"
He celebrated his 100th appearance in Rouge et Blanc with a header against Lyon in the league (a 2-1 win), before the international break. Since then, he has extended his contract with AS Monaco, until June 2025. Scorer of three goals and an assist this season, in all competitions, Guillermo Maripán spoke to the media , 48 hours ahead of Nantes coming to the Stade Louis-II (Sunday, 5:05 p.m.).
His contract extension
I am delighted to have have extended and to continue my adventure with AS Monaco. I have made a lot of progress since my arrival in the Principality, and I must say that I was very moved when I was offered this extension. I am really very happy to continue my journey with the Club.

The international break
I joined the team, even if I did not have the opportunity to play with my injury (an abdominal strain, editor’s note), because we have a new coach leading Chile. So I wanted to meet him. Since then I have resumed collective training this week and I am obviously ready to resume competition.
His development
My beginnings were not always easy, but I took refuge in my work. The team was also not at its best when I arrived. But being open helped me a lot to improve. After a few months of adaptation, I felt better and the squad made me feel better.
You can always progress in football, in all areas. I think I can still grow in my aggressiveness, in terms of winning duels and also in my communication and defensive positioning. Even offensively I think I can bring even more to the team (smiles).
Grinta and an eye for goal
As I said earlier, it is the fruit of work as a team that allows me to score goals and be decisive in the opposing penalty area (three goals and an assist this season). It is also appropriate to thank Taki and Caio who have found me with very nice passes. Then in terms of my state of mind, I want to prove that you have to fight for every ball. This is something that you have to maintain every day in training.

His experience within the squad
It is true that I feel that I have more responsibilities today in this team, which is still very young. I too still feel young (smile), even though I have more experience (100 games with AS Monaco, editor’s note), which I am trying to share. I must say that the young players listen to my advice, I don’t hesitate to talk to them and push them to give their all.
Benoît Badiashile being called up for France
I saw him play with France, especially the first match against Austria. Benoît is a young player with a lot of quality, especially on the ball. He has improved a lot in recent months, in the aggressiveness he puts in duels among other things.
He’s a more solid player now, who makes a lot of impact both defensively and offensively. He has a chance of going to the World Cup, and it would be really deserved for him, I wish him the best. The mistake not to make? It would be to believe that it was circumstance. But knowing Benoît, I know that will not be the case.
Psychologists joining the staff
Personally, I think the psychological aspect is very important, not only in pure football, but also in our daily life as men. Emilie and Sophie will bring us a lot, help us to express ourselves more and bring out our qualities. This is a very good thing in my opinion.
Alexis Sanchez in Ligue 1
I spoke with him, he is very happy to have come to our league. I’m happy to see that another Chilean is playing in the very tough competition that is Ligue 1. I hope for him that he will score a lot of goals in Marseille, or even that he will win a title… but not against us anyway (laughs)!
