Eliot Matazo nominated for Golden Boy 2022
After Benoit Badiashile, Pietro Pellegri and Myron Boadu in 2021, AS Monaco is again well represented in the Golden Boy 2022 award. This time, the Principality’s club has been included in the list of this prestigious award for players under the age of 21 playing in Europe (born after 1 January 2002), organized by Tuttosport, thanks to Eliot Matazo.

A full season
The Belgian U-21 international, who recently qualified for the Euro in his category, is coming off a full season with AS Monaco, having played 28 games (18 in Ligue 1, 6 in European cups and 4 in the French Cup). This confirms his rise to prominence, since the number 36 of the Red and Whites had played 14 games during the previous season, his first with the pros.
A XXL competition
Eliot Matazo will face stiff competition, as Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid), Jude Bellingham and Karim Adeyemi (Dortmund), Gavi and defending champion Pedri (Barcelona), Nuno Mendes (PSG) and Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) are also named.
This list of 100 will then be reduced by 20 each month to determine the 20 finalists in October. 40 journalists from all over Europe (L’Equipe, Marca, Bild, The Times…) will then vote to elect the lucky winner.
Martial and Mbappé already crowned
As a reminder, Anthony Martial, in 2015, and Kylian Mbappé, in 2017, had won this trophy while playing for AS Monaco in the months before their election, before their transfer to Manchester United and PSG.
