Eliesse Ben Seghir is nominated in the Trophées UNFP
It was December 28 and Eliesse Ben Seghir was about to reveal himself at the highest level. Sent on by Philippe Clement at half-time against AJ Auxerre, the pure product of the Academy scored a double to allow the Rouge et Blanc to win at the Stade Abbé-Deschamps (3-2), becoming the second-youngest player to score a double in the top flight, behind only a certain Thierry Henry.

Firsts as a specialty
Since then, the native of Gassin has continued his development with his first club. He now has played 20 games at the highest level (4 goals, 3 assists) and has even started in European play.
He scored again against AJ Auxerre at the Stade Louis-II on February 1 (3-2), and he also scored an important goal a few weeks ago during the Monegasque victory against Racing Club de Strasbourg (4-3) , a match in which he had not been the only resident of the Academy to shine. It’s all evidence that he does not hesitate, having been thrown into the deep end, as he was also decisive last March during his first call-up with the French U-19s.

A successor to Aurélien Tchouameni ?
Less than six months after his debut, Eliesse Ben Seghir has not only impressed the Rouge et Blanc supporters. The UNFP has also highlighted the impact of the youngster by including him in the list of nominees for the Best Young Player. It’s a logical sequel to his being named Young Player of the Month in January.

Even having just celebrated turning 18, will Eliesse Ben Seghir win and succeed Aurélien Tchouameni, elected best Young Player in the 2020-2021 season? We’ll have the answer on May 28, during the 31st Trophées UNFP ceremony. Congratulations Eliesse! 👏
