With a double, Takumi Minamino is your MVP against Strasbourg
He’s undergone a metamorphosis sicne the start of the season! Already very impressive in preseason (two goals against Betis and Bayern), Takumi Minamino hasn’t slowed down in the first two matches of the league season. First there was an assist in Clermont for Vanderson, and now he’s delivered a masterclass in the Rouge et Blanc’s big win over Strasbourg (3-0), Sunday.
An opener from long range
Once again playing behind Wissam Ben Yedder, the Japanese international delighted the crowd, who had come in large numbers to the Stade Louis-II. First he was at the origin of a beautiful bit collective play finished by Aleksandr Golovin (16′), and then it was on a bit of individual skill that he opened the scoring (20′).
After a ball recovered from the feet of Abakar Sylla, he unleashed an powerful strike from 25 meters which found the top corner of Matz Sels’ goal. It was his first goal from outside the box in the league since August 2019 with RB Salzburg against SV Mattersburg, noted our partner Opta.

Involved in all three goals
Very involved in the final third, the Monegasque number 18 even doubled the lead a quarter of an hour later, well found by Caio Henrique (36′). He thus scored his first league double since March 2018, again with the Austrian team, against Austria Vienna, according to Opta. And he could even have had a hat-trick if one of his strikes from the edge of the area been just wide.
After scoring in the first half, Takumi Minamino then turned provider in the second for his captain, sending him in perfectly with a sumptuous touch (58′). Note that with two assists already sent this season, he is alone at the top of this individual ranking (all others players have one).

In l’Équipe’s team of the week as well
It was a high-flying performance to which he added 59 touches and five recoveries, and which logically earned him the title of MVP of this match on the AS Monaco App, with more than 92% of the votes. It’s his first award since his arrival last summer. But that’s not all since with a score of 8 in sports daily L’Équipe, Takumi Minamino also appears in the best XI of the round by the sports daily.. よくやった滝 ! 👏
