Denis "sang-froid" Zakaria is your MVP in Zagreb

Denis "sang-froid" Zakaria is your MVP in Zagreb
Scorer of the equalizer with a confident penalty the Monaco captain took his responsibilities to allow his team to bring back a point on the Zagreb pitch (2-2). He was elected MVP on the AS Monaco App.

He has had a great start to the season. Previously a scorer twice against Lens and Auxerre, as well as providing an assist against the Burgundians, Denis Zakaria has taken his role as captain to heart. Responsibilities that he took on again this Wednesday, during the second matchday of the Champions League, on the pitch of Dinamo Zagreb.

A model of penalty-taking 🎯

As the match was taking place in conditions made hellish by constant rain and a soggy pitch, AS Monaco were trailing 2-1 with five minutes to go but were awarded a penalty thanks to Folarin Balogun. The Swiss international decided to take charge and without hesitating, he sent a perfect shot under the bar, to allow his team to equalize and bring back a point from Croatia (2-2).

As decisive this season as in 2023-2024 ✅

Accustomed to taking them in training, as he declared in the mixed zone after the match, the midfielder has now been involved in four goals in eight matches in all competitions (3 goals, 1 assist), which is already as many as last season (4 goals in 28 matches), recalls Opta.

Already MVP for the third time 🤟

But more than his penalty, Zak’ was once again impressive in midfield with 90 touches, 94% pass completion (despite the conditions!), two successful dribbles, seven duels won, five interceptions and four tackles.

It is therefore logical to see him being elected MVP quite widely for the third time of the season with 82.5% of the votes on the AS Monaco App. He is ahead of the other scorer of the evening Mohammed Salisu who collected 9% of the votes. Well done Captain’! 👏
