A convincing AS Monaco wins against Real Betis
It was a clear and flawless victory. Facing a lively Real Betis team, AS Monaco’s players showed patience before taking off in the second period, and they would finally win thanks to Kevin Volland and Takumi Minamino (1-3). To start this match, Adi Hütter opted for a 3-4-2-1 with the trio of Matsima-Maripán-Okou in defnce. Ben Seghir and Golovin would play as twin attacking midfielders behind Wissam Ben Yedder. 📋

No time wasted
There was no time to size up the other side on the Sir Bobby Charlton pitch, where the Rouge et Blanc offered themselves the first opportunity with a slightly overhit header from Vanderson on a fine pass from the Tsar (4′). The Brazilian wingback then failed to find his captain after a run from deep (7′). Then Ismaïl Jakobs missef the target after a well-timed delivery from Golo — him again (9′).
Real Betis struggled to respond in the game and failed to find a shooting chance. On the contrary, it was Youssouf Fofana who found himself in a shooting position, but his attempt was deflected by Rui Silva (20′). Then Wissam Ben Yedder missed the target after a header by Félix Lemarechal (24′). The match logically dropped in intensity at the half-hour mark, even if Golovin was close to dribbling past the opposing goalkeeper (34′).
Many chances… without success
Then the Monegasque number 10 saw his header captured on a good cross from Jakobs (37′), just before shooting wide after a counter led by Eliesse Ben Seghir (38′). Half-time came with two last attempts from the Academy-trained player (44′) and Aleksandr Golovin (45′), who remained lively.
On the restart, the Monegasque manager decided to completely change his eleven, with the exception of Radoslaw Majecki in goal. The Polish goalkeeper was also directly involved in a long shot that he tipped perfectly above his crossbar (53′). On the resulting corner, he would make a superb diving save (54′), before seeing an Andalusian header pass just over the goal (55′).

Kevin Volland puts on a show!
This lack of success was directly punished by a Monegasque counterattack on which Takumi Minamino perfectly found Kevin Volland at the near post (0-1, 56′). William Carvalho’s teammates tried to put their foot on the ball again, but without success. And it was even the German striker who would have a double on a high recovery from Edan Diop from which he finished with a subtle chip over Rui Silva (0-2, 66′).
A very convincing first win
AS Monaco even increased the score just after an off-target shot from Betis (72′), on a fine run by Axel Disasi that Taki’ finshed off (0-3, 76′). The pace then dropped again, before Manuel Pellegrini’s men reduced the gap with a header from a corner (1-3, 82′). The score remained there thanks to some good defensive solidity by the Rouge et Blanc, who therefore won for the first time in preseason (1-3). Daghe gars! 🇲🇨
