Captain’ Wiss is your MVP in Rodez!
He was “uncompromising” with the Rodez defense, according to Maghnes Akliouche after the match. After scoring a hat trick in Rodez (in a 1-3 win), helping AS Monaco to qualification for the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France, Wissam Ben Yedder was clearly the Man of the Match at the Stade Paul-Lignon.
92% from the penalty spot!
It’s quite simple, he was involved in all the good chances in this hard-fought match against the seventh-placed side from Ligue 2. Starting in attack alongside Folarin Balogun, the Monégasque Number 10 opened the scoring by converting a penalty won by the American striker (0-1, 10′). It was his 32nd for AS Monaco, which brings his success rate to almost 92% from the spot (32/35) and a goal which also brought to 250 the number of goals scored by Wissam in his career.

A serial scorer on the lookout
And he was not going to stop there, since in the second period, on a good long ball from Maghnes Akliouche to the feet of Folarin Balogun, the serial scorer was again on the lookout to push the ball into an empty net (1-2, 50′). The Rouge et Blanc were back in front, then doubled the lead seven minutes later, again thanks to Captain’ Wiss, perfectly found at the far post by Kassoum Ouattara (1-3, 57′)!
Close to the 2nd step of the podium
A hat-trick, his 12th career, which brings his total of goals scored in the Coupe de France to 13. With now 111 goals, all competitions combined, he remains only four behind the second best scorer in the history of the Principality club, Lucien Cossou (115). These are mind-blowing figures, which he could even have enriched with a an assist on two key passes for Aleksandr Golovin (55′) and Vanderson (82′).
Face à Rodez, @WissBenYedder a inscrit son 1⃣2⃣e triplé en carrière 🔥

A place in L’Équipe’s best French XI
In the end, his hat-trick was enough to lead the Rouge et Blanc to qualification, and Wissam Ben Yedder punctuated his stats sheet with three dribbles and 29 balls played in the final third. It was a high-level performance, which earned him MVP of the match with 92% of the fans’ votes on the AS Monaco App.
He would also appear in L’Équipe‘s team of the round, along with Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappé. Daghe Wiss! 👏
