Caio Henrique: "Do everything to get the three points"
It’s time to bounce back! A few days after a defeat after going down to ten men against Troyes, the players of AS Monaco want to raise their heads in the Côte d’Azur derby in Nice, as part of the sixth matchday in Ligue 1 (Sunday, 8:45 p.m.). It is with this in mind that Caio Henrique spoke with the media in the traditional pre-match press conference at the Performance Center.
We have to move on very quickly because the match against Nice is coming quickly, and this one is very important. We will do everything to get the three points against our rivals, who also have a lot of quality, like the duo of Delort and Laborde.
Bouncing back after the game against Troyes
It is true that we have a bitter feeling about the last match. But we don’t have time to think too much or to dwell on this match.
We have to move on very quickly because the match against Nice is coming quickly, and this one is very important. We will do everything to get the three points against our rivals, who also have a lot of quality, like the duo of Delort and Laborde. But the danger does not come only from them because Nice is mainly composed of technical players.
The start of the season
Football is like that. We would have liked to win the first few matches and start our season better. But Ligue 1 is a difficult league. Against Nice, we know the importance of this match for the supporters and the staff of the club. We are aware of all these aspects, and we know that this match can launch our season and start a positive run of form.
Your preferred position in defense
For me, playing on the left in a four or five-man defense is the same thing. It just depends on what the coach wants to put in place tactically. We are all available in this sense to help the coach execute his choices. Personally, I am comfortable in a defense with either four or five, although when we play with five, I can play a little higher up the pitch. But it’s a situation about which I don’t have a preference.
Room for improvement?
We may have lacked a bit of maturity, calm and concentration. Not agreeing with the referee probably got us out of the game mentally. This is football, though; we cannot look backwards but only seek to change the following matches.
We don’t have time to complain because the Derby and then the Europa League are coming up fast. We will work hard to get out of this situation. We will analyze our errors and correct them. But I am certain that we have the quality necessary to have a great season and achieve our objectives.
Your contributions on free kicks
It’s true that since I was little, I like to take set pieces. This area is one of my qualities. At the start of the season, the coach wanted to give me this mission. Therefore, I’ve worked on this even more in training because these plays can change the course of a match and thus help the team to win.
As a fullback, an assist is like a goal for forwards. I think my favorite assist is the one against Nantes in my first season when I played a ball over the top for Kevin.

Your contract extension
I feel very fulfilled in Monaco on a human and professional level. My family is also very happy here. Since my arrival, everything has been going well in a sporting sense, in particular as I’ve contributed a lot of assists. My contract renewal is therefore part of this process.
