Ben Yedder and Tchouameni in the UNFP Team of the Year
They have been amazing! Key in driving forward AS Monaco throughout the 2021-2022 financial year, and major players in the extraordinary run which started against Paris Saint-Germain in March (3-0), Wissam Ben Yedder and Aurélien Tchouameni have been honored by being named to the Ligue 1 Team of the Season. They received their respective awards at the end of the Trophées UNFP, which rewards the best players in the top flight, and which took place this Sunday evening at the Pavillon Gabriel in Paris.
Wissam’s record season
Also nominated by his peers for the title of best player, alongside Kylian Mbappé, Lucas Paquetá, Martin Terrier and Dimitri Payet, the Monegasque captain thus takes his place in attack in this first-choice eleven, along with his French teammate. Having had his best-ever goal return in a league season, with 24 goals after his hat-trick against Brest (in a 4-2 win), ahead of the last match of the season in Lens, the Rouge et Blanc number 10 recently took his place in the Top 10 scoring leaders in the history of the Club.
Scoring, passing; Wissam is at your service!
One of the architects of the Rouge et Blanc‘s fantastic run in 2022, as AS Monaco are the top side in the division since the start of the calendar year, Wissam Ben Yedder has been involved in a total of 38 goals this season in all competitions (31 goals, 7 assists). It is therefore logical that he is part of the team of the season in Ligue 1, alongside his partner in the Principality and with France.
Another honor for Aurélien “Big” Tchouameni
MVP of the team’s recent win in Lille (2-1 success), thanks to a superb double to allow his team to believe in a place on the podium, Aurélien Tchouameni was also honored by his peers. He takes his place in a very high level midfield, just reward for his rise over the past 18 months for the Principality. It’s a deserved “back-to-back” reward for one half of the duo “Fanamenal” , a year on from being a part of last year’s team and having won the title of best young player.
With 49 appearances this season, he is also the most-used player in the squad behind Alexander Nübel, as “Tchouam” confirmed this year that he was indeed one of the best players in Ligue 1, as voted on by all of the Ligue 1 players who participated in this highly anticipated vote. Well done to both!
