Eliesse Ben Seghir called up for the first time by Morocco
He’s surely had a week full of emotions! With a providential goal in Alsace last weekend (in a 0-1 win), to help the Rouge et Blanc to a fifth win on the road in six matches, Eliesse Ben Seghir has just been selected for the first time with the Moroccan national team. The Monegasque number 7 is in fact part of Walid Regragui’s squad for the March international break.
More than thirty matches in the first team
A pure product of La Diagonale, the native of Gassin has seen his meteoric progress since his arrival among the first team in December 2022 be rewarded. Author of 32 appearances with AS Monaco since his incredible double in Auxerre on his debut in Ligue 1 (2-3), the one who recently celebrated his 19th birthday has already been involved in 5 goals and 3 assists in the top flight. Nominated for the UNFP Trophy for best young player last season, he was also named best player of the Tournoi Maurice-Revello.
Two friendly matches to start
Having just extended his contract in January through 2027, Eliesse will therefore join the Atlas Lions for two friendly matches against Angola (Friday March 22) and Mauritania (Tuesday March 26). It’s a source of pride for the Monegasque team, knowing that the latter had been a finalist in the U19 national championship two years ago, under the orders of Frédéric Barilaro, before discovering the first team the following winter.
