Axel Disasi: "Give our all against Toulouse"
He has been again called up to the French national team by Didier Deschamps for the June matches. But before joining his national teammates, Axel Disasi has one last league match to play with AS Monaco this season against Toulouse, this Saturday (9 p.m.). It’s a key match in the fight for Europe, and one where victory seems obligatory. It is therefore with a conquering state of mind that the defender spoke at the pre-match press conference. 🎙
The squad’s state of mind
In view of the latest results, confidence is not at its highest, that’s for sure. This Saturday against Toulouse, we will try to give our all in this final battle to save what remains to be saved. We are not in good form but we must try to stay united in order to win this last match.
The team’s most recent matches
We haven’t shown enough of what we are capable of in recent games. The Club has given us the means to be ambitious and the last month of competition has not met expectations. It’s been a long season and we’ve suffered a lot of setbacks, especially in European play. That’s when we weren’t able to keep ourselves at a certain level.
His time at the Club to date
If we look at my time at AS Monaco, I experienced a lot of great things on an individual level. As for the collective, we have played in Europe regularly and played in the final of the Coupe de France in 2021. But if we look for more, I think that a title and qualification for the Champions League are missing.
Over these last three years, the balance sheet remains positive since I arrived, as there had not been the same standard. We’ve managed to finish third twice, which was not the case before my arrival. The Club has progressed like the Performance Center has been developed.
The style of play
Our DNA is to attack a lot and we become necessarily more exposed to counterattacks. The teams are watching us and know where to attack. Defensively, we have not been performing enough, especially at the end of the season when we conceded a lot of goals. I don’t want to point to so and so because it’s a collective effort. There is now one game left and we have to focus on that to pick up the three points.
Qualification for European play
It only depends on us but we must believe in ourselves because there is always a possibility of securing Europe. For that, we will have to do the work against Toulouse and then we will see what the other two teams do. There are no calculations to be made. But it will be a failure if we are not European when we know the expectations at the start of the season.
