Aurélien Tchouameni in CIES' Team of the Season!
There are scarcely words to describe Aurélien Tchouameni’s season. Arriving from Girondins de Bordeaux last winter, the Monegasque number 8 has impressed greatly this season. Playing in a double pivot with Youssouf Fofana, the midfielder has been nothing less than brilliant, and continues to progress with each match.
Named to the UNFP Team of the Season
His improving performances have not gone unnoticed, and he has been named the UNFP Young Player of the Season, and in their Team of the Season — these are just rewards but they don’t stop there, as CIES has also honored the Monegasque midfielder.
The CIES Football Observatory has selected their team of the season for Ligue 1 Uber Eats according to a performance index developed with Opta data. It’s thus no surprise that Aurélien Tchouameni has been included, as have two former Academy players, Kylian Mbappé and Romain Faivre.

Imperious in ball recovery, and a clinical eye for a pass
Moreover, when it comes statistics, the verdict has been unequivocal, as he has dominated the opposing midfielders at every turn. In 2021, no player made more ball recoveries than Aurélien Tchouameni, with 187. In the match against Lille, he even managed to make 20 recoveries, turning in an indomitable performance!
Growing in confidence as the season progressed, he also did not hesitate to get forward with the ball at his feet to support the attack. Ever-judicious from a technical standpoint, his measured play stood out in matches against the likes of Rennes, where he completed 89% of his passes in the opposing half. With three assists and two goals (against Marseille and Saint-Etienne), he has all the tools needed of a box-to-box midfielder. Bravo Aurélien !
