AS Monaco to face Sparta Prague in the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League
See you in the Czech Republic for the first European trip of the season! The opponent of AS Monaco for the third preliminary round of the Champions League is now set, following a win for Sparta Prague against Rapid Vienna (2-0).
Return leg at the Stade Louis-II
The first leg, which will take place on Tuesday, will be held in Prague, at the General Arena, before the reverse fixture, a week later, on Tuesday, August 10 at the Stade Louis-II. Note that the Rouge et Blanc had been selected first, but that a match involving Slavia Prague requires Sparta Prague, the future opponent of Niko Kovac’s men, to have the fixture rescheduled.

Repeat the team’s past performances
In the past, the third preliminary round has been quite successful for the Monegasques. In 2016, facing the Turkish side Fenerbahçe, Leonardo Jardim’s team won 4-3 over both legs with goals from Radamel Falcao and Valère Germain. It was an encounter which launched perfectly the incredible Monegasque season which saw the team reach a European semi-final and win an 8th title.
A year earlier, they had also easily qualified against Young Boys Bern (7-1 overall), before losing to Valencia in the play-offs. The Rouge et Blanc are two for two at this stage of the competition, and will therefore aim to make it 3 in the Czech Republic.
