AS Monaco fall in added time against Stade Brestois

How frustrating… Having leveled the score after an hour of play thanks to a penalty from Denis Zakaria, AS Monaco players conceded at the end of added time on Brest’s last chance, losing 2-1 at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.✍️

The context 📅

In good form with three wins and a draw, AS Monaco’s players had regained second place before traveling to Brest. Facing a team that has also competed in the Champions League this season, they will therefore have to “repeat Nice’s performance,” as Adi Hütter said in a press conference, looking to win and continue their run of six straight victories against the Ti’zefs.

Zak keeps a cool head to score from the spot

Behind at halftime, Adi Hütter brought in some new players with the introduction of Eliesse Ben Seghir and Vanderson after the break (46′). AS Monaco responded to a corner taken by Lamine Camara, but Breel Embolo’s shot went wide (55′). Then, Chardonnet’s foot would blocked an attempt just in front of Marco Bizot (59′).

His perseverance was rewarded, though, as he was awarded a penalty after VAR (61′). It was perfectly converted by Captain Zak’ (63′), levelling the score. It was his third goal against the Bretons, more than against any other team in the top flight, according to Opta.

Success eludes our Monégasques

The Monegasques, back in the game, wanted to make the difference, and the Moroccan international stood out with a fine effort from outside the box. It was unfortunately cleared for a corner by the Brest goalkeeper (76′). Maghnes Akliouche then looked to give the Rouge et Blanc the lead, but his shot was blocked by Chardonnet off his line (80′). Immediately afterward, Mama Baldé’s powerful effort was saved by Köhn (81′).

Lift our heads against Marseille

The end of the match was calm on both sides, but with a final long-range shot, Mahdi Camara beat Philipp Köhn and allowed Brest to take the lead at the end of added time (94′). It was cruel for the Rouge et Blanc, who thus lost 2-1 at the Stade Francis-Le Blé. The next match will be next Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash against Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Louis-II (5 p.m.).
