AS Monaco dominate Barça to win the Joan Gamper Trophy!
A prestigious victory! Initially composed at the start of the match, the AS Monaco players then shone in the second half to win comfortably against FC Barcelona (0-3). It was a win that delivered to them the Joan Gamper Trophy, under the eyes of President Dmitry Rybolovlev, present at the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys de Montjuïc alongside the President of Barça, Joan Laporta.
Zakaria as captain, Ben Seghir returns
For the occasion, the Rouge et Blanc lined up in a 4-4-2, with a return to the pitch for Eliesse Ben Seghir, recently a bronze medalist, on the left wing. From the start, Barça wanted to show themselves, and Pablo Torre missed a fine chance on a pass from Baldé (1′). Then it was Iñigo Martínez’s turn to be dangerous at a corner (12′). Denis Zakaria tried to respond, but his long-range shot went over the bar (24′).
Chance, but a lack of finishing
The Blaugrana continued to be incisive through the dangerous Alejandro Balde (35′), who worked hard to free himself. But it was Breel Embolo who had the best chance in behind, stumbling at the last against André Ter Stegen (36′). The two sides continued to trade blows, and Raphinha even thought he had scored the first goal, but he was flagged offside position (37′). Half-time finally came after a good ball from Ben Seghir for Folarin Balogun, in behind the defence (41′).

Camara the opportunist, Embolo the inspired!
Adi Hütter’s men came back with determination, and would soon open the scoring. On a poorly negotiated Barcelona goal kick, Lamine Camara picked up the ball at the edge of the area and didn’t need to be asked twice to score his first goal with AS Monaco (0-1, 50′)! But it wasn’t over yet, since shortly thereafter, Takumi Minamino played in Breel Embolo who slotted home a near-perfect shot to double the lead (0-2, 57′). What a goal!
A decisive debut for Mawissa
Shaken on their home turf, Barça tries to react through their European champion, Lamine Yamal, who had just came into the game. He first found Torre (71′), before trying his luck from afar, without success (74′). But the success was very much Monaco’s in this gala match, and on a deflected cross from Caio Henrique, Christian Mawissa took a step back onto his left foot and scored a third goal (0-3)!
Another trophy for the cabinet!
Having only arrived in the Principality on Sunday, the young French defender has already opened his account. It was a goal that would seal the fate of this match, which AS Monaco won by a wide margin, to be honored with the 59th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, presented to Denis Zakaria by President Dmitry Rybolovlev, accompanied by the two Vice-Presidents — Ekaterina Sartori Rybolovleva and Juan Sartori. Daghe! 🇲🇨
