AS Monaco and COPA reissue the jersey from the epic 2003-2004 Champions League run
As we celebrate this season the 20th anniversary of that unforgettable European campaign, AS Monaco and COPA wanted to pay tribute to one of the most beautiful passages of the Club’s history, by launching, in a limited edition, a replica of the jersey worn during this extraordinary adventure.
During this legendary run which marked an entire generation of Monegasque supporters and thrilled the whole of France, the club from the Principality achieved several resounding results to reach the final of the 2003-2004 Champions League.
A jersey symbolic of legendary exploits
Led by heroic players such as captain Ludovic Giuly, Fernando Morientes, Jérôme Rothen, Patrice Evra, Flavio Roma, Gaël Givet, or Dado Pršo, AS Monaco first recored a historic 8-3 win against Deportivo La Coruña, at the Stade Louis-II, in the group stage.
Didier Deschamps‘s team then won a legendary tie against the Galacticos of Real Madrid, in the quarterfinals before knocking out the Blues of Chelsea in a wild semifinal tie, bringing together all the supporters of the Rouge et Blanc to Gelsenkirchen, the setting for the final.
A chip allowing access to exclusive content
Faithful to the style of the era, this collector’s jersey is also equipped, for the first time, with an NFC chip placed under the Champions League badge on the right sleeve. This will allow supporters to access, via their smartphone and the ZATAP application, exclusive content and numerous surprises, linked to this epic story forever engraved in our memories.
Memories with Ludovic Giuly
As a symbol of the link between the glorious past of AS Monaco and those defending the Club’s colors today, this jersey was presented through a photo shoot carried out with Ludovic Giuly, emblematic captain of the 2003-2004 team, and several players from the current squad (Youssouf Fofana, Folarin Balogun, Takumi Minamino, Wilfried Singo, Eliot Matazo and Ismail Jakobs).
The Club has regularly collaborated with the COPA brand in recent years to bring back to light legendary former kits, such as those from the 1982-1983, 1987-1988 or even, last year, that of 1996-1997.
