Alexander Nübel is the MVP of the big win over Olympique Lyonnais
He kept up the momentum from his game against Belgrade three days earlier. MVP on Thursday thanks to a remarkable performance, Alexander Nübel shone again against Olympique Lyonnais during his team’s win (2-1), allowing him to be player of the match once again on the AS Monaco App and thus make it two straight awards!
Top class saves!
Decisive five times in Serbia, the Monegasque goalkeeper did the same Sunday against Lyon. He first stopped, without difficulty, shots by Alexandre Lacazette (21′) and Nicolas Tagliafico (36′), then he closes down his angles well in order to force Tetê to shoot wide (43′).
Alex Nübel then won his duel against the Lyon captain like a handball goalkeeper (53′). It was a decisive save which allowed the Monegasques to keep a the score level at zero apiece before the opening goal, which came only two minutes later. And finally, he kept out a powerful volley from Moussa Dembélé at the beginning of added time to seal the victory (90′).
The most decisive goalkeeper in Ligue 1
These five saves increased his total to 36 since the start of the season in Ligue 1. He is thus the goalkeeper who has made the most saves in the French league, ahead of Clermont goalkeeper Mory Diaw (33).
Calm in the air, he also did well at set pieces, reassuring his defense. Also excellent with his feet, he was close to delivering an assist for Aleksandr Golovin on a long ball before the Russian’s half-volley was punched away by Anthony Lopes.
He finishes slightly ahead of Caio Henrique
It was a good performance which therefore earned him the title of MVP on the AS Monaco App, with 40% of the vote, just ahead of Caio Henrique (31%), who had two assists from dead balls.
He first dropped the ball onto the head of Benoît Badiashile at a corner (55′), before picking out Guillermo Maripán on a free kick (63′). These were his 21 and 22nd assists as a Monegasque, and his fourth this season. Good job guys!
