A key player in Monaco’s squad, used on 6 occasions since August, Aleksandr Golovin has played an active role in the Red and Whites’ fine start to the season, which has seen them finish joint top of Ligue 1 after six rounds, with a win (over Barcelona, 2-1) and a draw (in Zagreb, 2-2) in the Champions League.

Monaco’s No10 had already taken part in Europe’s most prestigious competition during his first season at the club, in 2018-2019. Since then, the midfielder has made 209 appearances for Monaco (31 goals, 39 assists), making him both the longest-serving and most-capped player in the professional squad.

The CSKA Moscow-trained player, 28 since 30 May, is coming off two full seasons with the Red and Whites, during which he played 72 games and was decisive on 28 occasions (14 goals, 14 assists). With 33 assists made in L1 since his arrival in the summer of 2018, he is quite simply Monaco’s best player in the exercise, ahead of Joao Moutinho (26), according to Opta figures.
