Adi Hütter: “We must continue to move forward”
In their first match after the international break the Rouge et Blanc saw a cruel end to their match in Lorient. Despite a solid performance with lots of effort on display, our Monégasques were pegged back in added time, and were not rewarded for their efforts. After this frustrating result, Adi Hütter spoke to the media at a press conference.
Hello Coach. AS Monaco had a good match but dropped two points. We imagine you are frustrated…
Of course I’m upset and disappointed. It wasn’t our best match today, but we were able to bounce back well after conceding the first goal, which is not easy. We deserved our equalizer with a fantastic goal from Aleksandr Golovin, but for me in the first half we played too slowly. Against a team that defends so much and is so dangerous on the counterattack, it’s not easy.

We then didn’t start the second half very well, we could have done better. The three changes brought a lot. We managed to take the lead, without managing to defend it until the end. It’s a draw in the end, and I’m disappointed. We must continue to move forward.
Do you think you lacked concentration on the second goal?
I don’t know if we can call it an error. We had a lot of possession in the last minutes, and we wanted to continue to attack. On the last ball, we didn’t defend enough, especially on the cross from Benjamin Mendy. We have to be quicker in the penalty area. Romain Faivre’s goal was fantastic, but we are very upset to have conceded it. We must continue to move forward, and we will now face Nice and Marseille, which are two very important matches.
Did your team lack freshness after the international break?
It’s true that we may have lacked a little freshness. Players like Caio Henrique and Vanderson had long trips during this break, but our substitutes contributed a lot. It’s not easy to come to Lorient, and we’ll take a point from this draw which is not negative either, but we still remain quite disappointed with this result and the goal at the very end. But we are undefeated in five games, that’s positive. It ended 2-2, and that’s how it is.
You went behind quickly in this match, did you expect that?
The goal came on a long ball, play moved very quickly. We were surprised, and it was a difficult start to the match. Everyone thinks we’re at the top, but it’s a process that takes place. We are having a very good run, and it will continue after this draw.

Folarin scored his first goal today, what did you think of him and his contribution?
I’m very happy for him and for his first goal with the Club, I think it’s deserved. He had already scored with the USMNT during the international break. He is a player who brings other skills to the attacking third. But we also have players like Wissam Ben Yedder, Myron Boadu, Takumi Minamino and Aleksandr Golovin who can also bring us things offensively.
