Adi Hütter: "Happy with the result and the reaction of my team"
He begins his spell on the AS Monaco bench with a win! At the end of a crazyy match one that was very attacking for both sides, the Rouge et Blanc ended up edging a brave Clermont side (4-2), in order to start the 2023-2024 season with a victory. In the wake of this match in Auvergne, Adi Hütter spoke with journalists in a post-match press conference.
Hello Coach. How do you see this first victory in Ligue 1?
I am happy with this victory and I want to thank the players and the staff for their performance. We played against a very good team in Clermont, to whom I pay tribute. To take the three points is very important to start the league season. I would also like to congratulate Vanderson, who was decisive twice, as was Wissam Ben Yedder, but overall it’s a great team win.

However, the team conceded many chances. Does the defence remain a point for improvement?
First of all, I’m happy with the result and the reaction of my team, after conceding the opener. But again, Clermont is to be congratulated. We struggled for the first 15-20 minutes of each half as we conceded goals. We were then able to rebuild from the back. It is true that we conceded chances and had defensive problems but that is part of the process. We will analyze this and try to improve.
Tell us about Philipp who bounced back well after concecing the first goal…
Philipp made a mistake on the first goal, it’s true, but he made some really big saves afterwards. He helped us a lot when the match was not yet settled. We are a team; we lose and we win together. Once again, he was able to bounce back after conceding the opener.
Is this the sort of debut you dreamed of for your first match on the bench?
It’s always good to start with a win. When you are a coach, you have to know the difference between the result and the performance. We managed to score four goals against a team that is not used to conceding many. I am not 100% satisfied but I will savor the victory in my first match on the Monegasque bench.

Should we expect as much of a spectacle in each match as today?
We all like it when there is a show on the pitch. I have a lot of respect for the teams we will face, like Lorient yesterday against PSG. But I am first and foremost a coach and I like to see what I want to put in place on the pitch.
Will the increase in additional time cause you to change your coaching style?
It is true that today we played almost 20 minutes more. We waited before making any changes. Everyone was struggling but we purposely waited for substitutes to bring some freshness. This was the case with Eliot and Maghnes, I really appreciated their contributions. This new phenomenon must therefore be taken into account.
