Adi Hütter: "This is a fantastic victory for us"
They moved a mountain! Facing Barça for the 59th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy – which they had not lost since 2012 – the Rouge et Blanc produced a great performance, to win 3-0. This big win obviously made Adi Hütter very proud of his players but also ready to look ahead, as he said to the press. 🎙️
Good evening. What a match against Barcelona to start this season!
Yes, it was a great evening! I am happy and satisfied because no one expected us to win this match 3-0. Especially since at the beginning we had difficulty getting into the game, making a few small technical errors.
But then we got better and better, and this 3-0 win is a fantastic result for us. Now we will start the league against Saint-Etienne, and I expect a very difficult match.
The team were sharp offensively tonight. We imagine that this is a satisfaction for you…
After the first 15 minutes, we were better in the game, with more and more chances and one-touch play. In the second half we were in midfield, because you can’t press this Barcelona team for 90 minutes.
The team responded well, and even if we still have to work on some details, we showed a lot of courage. We were keen to show that we are a good team. Congratulations to my players, because this victory will give them a lot of confidence.
Talk to us about the performance of Lamine Camara, who scored tonight!
He arrived here two weeks ago and took a little time to fit in. Because it is a difficult step to go from FC Metz to AS Monaco, but he has worked to adapt and is already developing. He is a good player, there is no doubt about it, but you have to be patient with young players.
Christian Mawissa also made an incredible appearance even though he hadn’t trained with us yet. Especially since he’s left-footed and came in on the right wing (smile), it’s all the more rewarding to score in that position.
To return to the first goal, it was so sudden, that even the cameras missed the action…
(Smiles) It’s a situation that we work on a lot in training. We try to win the ball high up and score straight away. The way Lamine Camara scored that goal is really fantastic. Even the second one was incredible, with that chipped ball from Breel Embolo, it’s a real goal-scorer’s move! Once again I’m very happy tonight, but I’m already focused on Saint-Etienne.
What are your ambitions for this season?
I don’t want to get carried away with tonight’s match. We still have to integrate our new players, and then we still have important players missing like Aleksandr Golovin and Krépin Diatta. We also have to await the returns of Maghnes Akliouche, Soungoutou Magassa and Chrislain Matsima, who are returning from international duty.
A last word for Takumi Minamino who has a fantastic assist for the second goal…
We have known each other for 10 years. I know he had a difficult first season here at Monaco, but we know each other well, he knows perfectly what style of play I play and that helps a lot. He is full of confidence, can score and provide goals. And I also like the fact that he is able to play in several positions. Takumi is very intelligent, and he is a real asset for us.
