100 in Rouge et Blanc for Ruben Aguilar
It was one more fight for one of AS Monaco’s most valiant warriors. This Saturday, away to RC Lens (2-2), Ruben Aguilar played his 100th match in the colors of the Club. The 29-year-old right back, who arrived in August 2019 from Montpellier, has worn the red and white jersey 80 times in Ligue 1, twelve times in French cups and eight times in European play.
The French international (one cap) who scored three goals and delivered ten assists in Monaco, ended the season like a cannonball, contributing greatly to the team’s run of ten consecutive games without defeat (nine wins, a draw) to finish the season on the podium.
“A real example for his teammates”
A player with an exemplary mentality, Ruben Aguilar was praised by Philippe Clement before a visit from Brest on the 37th matchday in Ligue 1. “He’s a ‘survivor’, with an exceptional mentality,” averred the Monegasque coach. “If he has to go through a wall to help the team, he will do it. He has an incredible desire to play, to run, and in training he exerts himself a lot, he always wants more.”
“He doesn’t play for himself or to be in the spotlight, he plays the role we ask him to play, defensively and offensively. It’s very important to have players like that in a team. He is a real example for his teammates. He likes to do things with others, he was born to play a team sport.”
La 100 in Ligue 1 with Monaco for Wissam Ben Yedder
This trip to Lens was also an opportunity to honor another “centenarian”, as Wissam Ben Yedder played his 100th match in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco (124 in all competitions). It’s a special milestone that the captain celebrated by scoring his 25th goal of the season in the league. Bravo to both!
