Netherlands, versatility, Gakpo… 10 things to know about Jordan Teze

Netherlands, versatility, Gakpo… 10 things to know about Jordan Teze
Monaco's fourth signing of the summer, the Dutch defender has a great profile and some top-level experience. Following his signing, here's what you need to know about the new number 4.

He has signed with AS Monaco through 2029! Reinforcing the Rouge et Blanc defence from PSV Eindhoven, Jordan Teze does not arrive with a blank CV at the foot of the Rock. So before experiencing his first minutes in La Diagonale , here is what you need to know about the 24-year-old Dutch international.By com ✍️

The ninth Dutchman to join AS Monaco 🇳🇱

By coming to the Principality, Jordan Teze becomes the ninth Dutch player to turn out in Rouge et Blanche. Among his predecessors, we find Bert Carlier, who won a double in 1963! More recently, Nacer Barazite, Maarten Stekelenburg, Terence Kongolo and even Myron Boadu played before him (without forgetting Gerrit Vreken, Rudolf Suurendonk and Anthony Musaba).

He speaks (a little) French 💬

Born in the North of Holland, in Groningen, the new Monaco number 4 will not have too much trouble communicating with his teammates. Of Congolese origin through his parents (Democratic Republic of Congo, editor’s note), he already has some idea of French, as he says in his arrival video, a significant asset for his integration into the squad.

A pure product of PSV’s academy 👶

By coming to the shores of the Mediterranean, Jordan is making a big leap. AS Monaco will only be his second club in his career, given that he has come from the academy of PSV Eindhoven.

A pure product of the Dutch academy, he notably learned the ropes with a certain Cody Gakpo, current Liverpool striker, a teammate with whom he has even made the most appearances (153). But he also played alongside Donyell Malen of Borussia Dortmund… and Nice’s Pablo Rosario.

He has already played (plenty) in central defence 🚧

Although he arrives with the label of athletic right-back, good in duels and skillful on crosses, Jordan Teze is nonetheless versatile. From the youth teams (U19, Youth League, reserves), he has indeed alternated between the flanks and central defense, notably in systems with two centre backs. This was also the case with the first team under Roger Schmidt, between 2020 and 2022. Proof that he will be able to play in several positions within the Monaco defence.

A goal from midfield as a youngster 🚀

He already has something in common with his new teammate, Lamine Camara! When he played with the PSV U19s, the new Monegasque distinguished himself by scoring a sublime lob from over 50 meters against ADO Den Haag. An inspiration that has certainly been kept in mind, and which he looked back on in an interview for the club.

He’s played three times against AS Monaco 🎞️

The Rouge et Blanc‘ supporters will have painful memories of him. Jordan Teze had already played against AS Monaco, before defending their colours. And unfortunately, he participated in the elimination of the teammates of Ismail Jakobs in the third qualifying round of the Champions League in August 2022.

After a draw in the Principality in the first leg (1-1), the Dutch won at home (3-2)… with an assist from the full-back on the qualifying goal. Starting in defense each time, he had previously participated in the a draw in the group stage of the Europa League at the Stade Louis-II  the previous season (0-0).

Plenty of European experience 🇪🇺

Although he is only 24 years old, “Jo” has a great background behind him. Of the nearly 200 matches played with his training club, a good number have been in European competition. With no fewer than 47 appearances in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League combined (16 qualifying matches), the Dutch defender already has a great deal of experience on the continent.

He even recently crossed paths with his training partner, Donyell Malen, in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund. Previously, Jordan had even scored his first European goal in the group stage, against FC Sevilla.

An U-21 Euro semifinalist alongside a Monégasque 🥉

Although he has never played with a player from the current squad at a club, Jordan Teze has known one of his compatriots in the youth selection. Before experiencing his first caps with the “Orange” (4 caps), the defender had played in the last four of the 2021 European Under-21 Championships, alongside Myron Boadu.

For the record, he had at the time participated in the elimination in the quarter-finals of a Bleuets side that included… Badiashile, Disasi, Fofana and Tchouameni! A regular with the youth teams, he accumulated 38 caps between the U16s and U-21s, before playing four times with the senior team.

He rubbed shoulders with former Ligue 1 players… and Monaco players 🤝

As just his second club, this will be a new league for him. But Ligue 1 is not totally unknown to him, since he has crossed paths with many former players. Starting with Peter Bosz, the former coach of OL, with whom he was crowned champion of the Netherlands last May.

He has also played with the Monegasque Olivier Boscagli, the former Nice players Benitez and Pablo Rosario, and former Rouge et Blanc Nicolas Isimat-Mirin and Carlos Vinicius. This is without forgetting other L1 players: Sangaré and Aboukhlal (Toulouse), Simons (PSG), Thorgan Hazard (Lens), El Ghazi (Lille), Mvogo (Lorient) and Mitroglou (OM).

A hiddent talent for commentary 🎙️

If he is talented on the pitch, Jordan is also talented off it. In any case, he can already think about his future as a television commentator, if we are to believe these images where he himself comments on his match on EA Sports FC. A little bit of training and soon a remake of Stad’Inside IRL? FYI, his EAFC24 card in career is in any case at 76 in general note, for a potential of 82, with in particular 82 of evaluation in endurance and 81 in tackling!
